Alfred Hitchcock's Waltzes From Vienna Review
This is not a typical movie from Alfred Hitchcock. There are no murderous birds, or motel killings. Rather, it's a charming romance in the time of Johann Strauss II, when he was still unknown for his famous Blue Danube, and still very much in the shadow of his famous father, played by Edmund Gwenn of Miracle on 34th Street fame. No one seems to believe in the younger Strauss' musical talent, especially his stuffy father. There are however some, including a countess, who feel that if the people could only hear The Blue Danube performed, Strauss' career would be assured. However, the younger Strauss' girl, Rasi, suspects the Countess is a lover, not just a mentor. The costumes, the music, the sets, it's all very charming and nicely done, and with a happy ending..... instead of a body!Alfred Hitchcock's Waltzes From Vienna Overview
