British Royal Weddings Of The 20th Century (2011) Review
This set was somewhat disappointing. While it includes a great deal of rare footage from royal weddings from this century, more emphasis is on the older weddings in very grainy black & white footage. The current royal wedding are also covered (no, you won't see William & Catherine's big day in this set, a huge disappointment). The footage is a collection of Pathe documentaries with substandard clarity. The color editions are terrible! You can't see the details of the wedding gowns, the transfer from tape is so bad. I have seen better looking footage from a National Geographic documentary that was crystal clear, even with footage from the mid-sixties weddings. You can barely see the details of Princess Diana's famous gown. Only Sarah Ferguson's gown is clearly seen. While this edition is great for history buffs, I do wish the production team would have taken the time to clean up the horribly grainy footage for clarity and included more coverage of the wedding of Charles & Diana. I can understand the grainy status of the early 1900 weddings, but I have seen much clearer footage of Princess Elizabeth's wedding in 1947.
